My New Friend Google Home

My husband and I are both techies. We live in the heart of Silicon Valley and we both work in the tech industry as designers. So naturally, we’re mostly in tuned with the latest gadgets. I’ve been following Alexa, Echo Dot and Google Home closely, but never felt the need to own one. Since I work in tech, I’m a bit paranoid about all the smart gadgets in our home. I mean have you watched the latest episode of Black Mirror? If you have, then you know what I mean. Without getting in too much in detail about technology and privacy, I didn’t think I needed a smart assistant in our household until I met Google Home.

Setup was fairly easy. I plugged in the device, powered up the app and followed the simple instructions. Within 3 mins, we were good to go!

I tested her out by asking things like “Okay Google, what’s the weather like this Saturday in Napa?” She replies, “It will be 89 degrees Fahrenheit this Saturday in Napa, I would wear something for warm weather.”

“Okay Google, what time is it right now?” She says, “It’s 2:12pm”

“Okay Google, can you set an alarm for 2:30pm today? I don’t want to overcook my hardboiled eggs” She says “Sure, according to Simply Recipes, it takes 10-12 minutes to fully cook a hardboiled egg. I will set an alarm for 2:22pm just in case.”

WOW! Are you kidding me?! This is amazing! I decided to keep her around the house since she’s been quite helpful! My husband even loves the fact that he can ask her to play any song he wants on cue. He loves to perform his funny dance moves for me every now and then.

Also if you have a smart bulb, you can even sync your household lights. I also synced my emails, calendar, and a lot of other things to help me with my day. Thanks Google Home!
